Brazos Valley Fashion Week

G and I have lived in CS for over a year now. We have loved the hospitality, traditions and most of all, the people. I must admit that when I heard we were being transferred here I was nervous. I have a four year fashion degree and nine years of industry experience – what in the world would I do there? Luckily, I met Charli, a boutique owner who has had her store for almost 42 years! She brought me on to help with the daily store operations as well as incorporate my personal shopping and styling services into the stores customer service.

Charli and I were asked to participate in Brazos Valley Fashion Week by the fabulous Christopher Michael, a local salon owner. BVFW would put on runway shows for three nights and feature local boutiques as well as designers from Project Runway and Project Runway All-Stars. (Kate Pankoke, anyone!? Love me some redheaded fashion friends!) The shows would not only serve as a treat for all local fashion lovers but also raise money for the Fun For All Playground being built for children with special needs.

We styled looks for twelve amazing models and showed our looks on Saturday, the VIP night. My incredible family came to support the cause, including my sweet friend Rosy. Shop some of our looks below.

We met up with local ladies for a night of brush calligraphy (taught by the owner of The August Reign Etsy shop) and floral crown lessons. Although she and I both failed miserably at mastering both crafts, we still had a good time laughing, drinking wine and getting dressed up. Shop our Galentine’s looks below!

Our Wedding Highlights

My mom surprised me wedding day with custom charms added to my bouquet that had photos of my grandfather (my dad’s dad), my great-grandpa and my great grandma (my Nana’s parents). It was so special!

091_Ceremony 400_Reception090_GettingReady 087_GettingReady

Garrett wanted to keep our ceremony traditional and not do a “first look”, so I shared one with my sweet dad. I gave him a handkerchief that read “You loved me first”, in reference to our father/daughter dance song “I Loved Her First” by Heartland.

My sister and I both have Psalm 118:27 tattooed on our wrists in honor of our great-grandmother, Evelen. She was a strong, kind, woman of God who loved shared her “happy on the way” attitude with everyone she came in contact with. She loved and lived by Psalm 118:27 and taught us to do the same. Fun fact: Grandma Evelen was our officiants first bible school teacher!

066_GettingReady 016_GettingReadyOur officiant (Youth pastor and brother to my matron-of-honor, Kelli) read from an old family bible that has been used for many generations of events from Garrett’s family.

553_Reception 498_ReceptionMy sister rapped her speech. Yes, you read that right. She made a remix to “Ice, Ice, Baby” about Garrett and I and debuted it on the dance floor in front of all our family and friends. It was beyond perfection and she received a standing ovation!

Shop The Trend: The Blanket Scarf

I am thrilled to share my picks for another popular fall trend that is sure to give you a warm, fuzzy feeling – it’s the blanket scarf. Wearing scarves in the fall is nothing new but the size of these scarves is. The extra fabric makes this comfy accessory very versatile and can be styled in more than one way.

1. Build Your Own Infinity. Take a basic rectangle scarf and tie the ends together to create a wrap scarf with extra layers to keep your neck warm.

2. Belt It. Throw it over your shoulders and belt at the waist to create a poncho look.

3. Let It Hang. The great thing about the blanket scarf is that it is great for the grab-and-go. Drape around your neck and let is hang delicately for an effortless look.

4. Rock The Wrap. Many blanket scarves are long enough to lay over your shoulders and wear as a shawl. You can do this over a jacket, coat or blazer for an extra layer of warmth.
